Figure Skating In Cedar Rapids

Skaters normally begin to skate in a group lesson environment, such as the USFSA (United States Figure Skating Association) Learn-To-Skate program. This "Basic Skills" program teaches the basics of skating in a group setting. As skaters progress through the levels, they will be taught elements associated through the sport of figure skating. When the skaters have learned their basic elements of skating, many will join a skating club (The Eastern Iowa Figure Skating Club) and begin to develop figure skating skills by working with a private instructor. Figure Skaters can practice anywhere from one freestyle session a week up to 15 hours per week during freestyle sessions. The number of hours depends on their level of interest, competitiveness and budget.

Many of our Cedar Rapids skaters compete throughout the Midwest. Cedar Rapids is growing to be one of the toughest and most competitive rinks throughout the state of Iowa. This is due to the quality of the rink's coaching staff.

There are different levels of skating in competitions. Skaters can even compete in the basic skills level. Basic Skills competitions are held regularly throughout the Midwest.  The Eastern Iowa Invitational competition, which is held in March, hosts a competition of all skill levels.

Whether you're a Basic Skills member or a Senior-level National competitor, you will have the opportunity to train and compete in Cedar Rapids.
