The Cedar Rapids Ice Arena uses the USFSA's Skate with U.S. Basic Skills
Program to teach tots, children and adults from beginner through advanced levels
of skating. Professional instructors provide group instruction to individuals
who have an interest in learning to skate for figure skating, hockey or
recreational skating.
Upcoming Learn to Skate Sessions:

Early Bird Registration Fee:
$65.00 for 6-week course
if
registered one week before the start of the session.
Registration Fee:
$10
late fee after the early bird deadline.
USFSA Fee: $12.50
annual fee, in addition to the Learn-to-Skate registration fee, is due every
September for all participates in the program.
Descriptions of Basic Skills Levels
- Snowplow Sam 1-3
Creative learning through games and songs, this class will introduce the sport
of skating to children 4-6 years old.
- Basic 1-4
This course is for children ages 7 or older. In this class, your child
will grow through the development of balance, coordination, strength and
self-confidence.
- Basic 5-8
For the skater who has passed Basic 1-4, this course will further develop the
skills needed for figure skating.
- Parent & Me
This class is an introduction to skating for children ages 3-5 accompanied by an
adult or guardian. If numbers of skaters are low, this class may be
combined with Snowplow Sam 1.
- Adult & Teens
This class has four basic skill levels specially targeted for adults and teens.
- Freeskate 1-6
This class is for the advanced skater looking to learn figure skating jumps,
spins and advanced footwork.
- Hockey 1-4
For the skater who has passed Basic 1-4, this course will further develop the
skills necessary for hockey.
- Special Population- An unique class for skaters with special
needs. Skaters will learn the basics of skating in a fun and controlled
environment. Cost for this class is $35.00 plus the $12.50 annual fee.
Family Learn to Skate
Family Learn to Skate is a great way to learn how to skate AND you can bring
the whole family!
When: Friday evenings. Lessons begin at 6:30 p.m. and end at 7:00
p.m. You and your family can stay and skate after the class.
Cost: $20.00 per family, per class
Drop-In Learn to Skate
Come in and cool off from the summer heat and learn how to skate! Drop-In
Learn to Skate is for the beginner skater who wants to learn forward and
backward skating along with how to stop!
When: Mondays and Wednesdays starting at 2:00 p.m. and ending at 2:30
p.m. You can stay and skate on public ice after the class!
Cost: $8.00 per person or $20.00 per family.
Figure Skating Camp
Spend a day each week cooling off at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena! This
camp is intended for those who already know how to skate forward on their own.
We will offer three Learn to Skate/figure skating camps on the following dates:
June 16th - 20th
July 7th - 11th
August 4th - 8th
Schedule as follows:
9:30 a.m. - 9:50 a.m. - Edges Class
9:50 a.m. - 10:15 a.m. - Jumps/Spins
10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. - Supervised Free Time (Private lessons may be
available during free time at an extra cost)
11:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. - Off-Ice stretch and exercise class

Parent/Guardian and Me
The Parent/Guardian and Me is an introduction to skating for children
accompanied by parents or guardian. The class is a fun way to introduce
the sport of skating to you and your child. Your child will grow through
development of balance, coordination and strength. The 6-week class is
offered Tuesdays at 10:00 am or Thursdays at 2:00 pm beginning on September
11th. This class is also offered as part of the Learn-to-Skate program
mentioned above with classes on Mondays or Saturdays.
Cost: $8.00 drop-in session or $42 for 6-week session
